We see here a Guardian Angel holding a child in his arms. This reflects Christ who said, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father." (Mt 18:10)
The Church has traditionally taught that every human being born into the world has a Guardian Angel to help him or her toward the goal of eternal life. Children are usually taught to pray to their Guardian Angel thus,

PRAYER Angel of God, my Guardian dear, |
In Psalm 91:10-12 we read that God's angelic protection is especially true for those who have placed their trust in God as we read:
"You have the LORD for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold.
No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent.
For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways.
With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone."
This truth was even quoted by the Devil when he tempted Christ to cast himself off the top of the Jerusalem temple so as to astound the people because, the Devil said, God's angels would support his fall so that no harm would come to the Son of God.
