"All things were created through Him and for Him.
He is before all things,
and in him all things hold together."

Mars was created and exists for a purpose which can only be deciphered in the mystery of Christ. God the Father created Mars through his eternal Word who is the Son, Reason and Wisdom of creation and who took flesh as God's only Son on planet earth. All things were created through the Word and for Christ, therefore, Mars and the other planets in the solar system played and are playing their role in revealing and unfolding the Mystery of Christ.

"When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,
in the days of King Herod,
behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
'Where is the newborn king of the Jews?
We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.'"
(Mt. 2:1-2)

There is general agreement among scholars that Christ was born between 8 BC--4 BC., however, the preferred date is 6 B.C. It is undisputed that Herod died in 4 BC. Before his death, the Magi made him aware of the birth of a King so Herod decided to kill all the children in Bethlehem two years old or younger. So it stands to reason that Herod must have calculated that the Magi saw the star c. 6 BC. But, how long before Herod died did the Magi encounter him? We do not know. So 6 BC may or may not be an accurate assumption for the birth of Christ.

What was the star which the Magi so in the east?

According to the latest studies Mars was not the Star of Bethlehem. Michael Molnar careful consideration of the question from an astrological viewpoint of the times concludes that the horoscope of April 17, 6 BC was regal because the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn were in the sign of Aires which was considered the sign of Judea. He concludes that Jupiter was the star the Magi saw rising in the East and that it best fits the Biblical account. 81

Christ Be Our Light

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
Light for the world to see.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your church, gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has pow'r to save us.
Make us your living voice repeat (refrain )

Mars or Not
