22. Tav

With Tav we reach the last letter of the Hebrew Alpabet. The word tav means mark or impression. This letter is also found at the end of the word emet (truth) and begins thre word tikum (redemption) or returning to the source of forgiveness. Rabbi Yotzchak Ginsburg has well written: "Torah is the impression [the tav] of Divinity; Israel is the impression [the tav] of Torah." "The tav, the final letter of the alef-beit, corresponds to malchut ("kingdom"), the final Divine power, in the secret of 'Your Kingdom is the Kingdom of all worlds.' The impression of the tav is the secret of the power that links worlds - generations - together."

Christian Perspective

It has been observed that Tav in its most ancient form was the sign of the + or an X. This is indeed providential because because this is the sign of Christ's death. Christ is his humanity is indeed the seal of God's Truth and Redemption upon Israel and the whole of mankind. All truth contained in tav come together on the Cross.

We see at the left the Centurion who with his men said "Truly, this is the Son of God!" Two revolutionaries were crucified with Jesus and one of them said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." He replied to him, Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." On the top of the Cross, Pilate placed an inscription in Hebrew, Latin and Greek which read, "Jesus, the Nazorean, the King of the Jews." The Jews objected because it should have read, he said I am the kind of the Jews. Pilate replied, "What I have written, I have written." It cannot be changed.
