Creation reflects God's existence and his attributes.

     -In a flower we see his beauty;
-in the seasons his wisdom;
-in the sea his power;
-in the sky his infinity;
-in the clouds his providence;
-in the sun his glory;
-in mankind his intelligence
-and in a mother's love, his care.

The intrinsic purpose of the work of creation is primarily the revelation of divine perfections and the glorification of God which flows from creatures. Secondly, God creates to bestow his goodness on his creatures, especially on man who can achieve true happiness only by glorifying God.68

"Worthy are you, Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things;
because of your will they came to be and were created."
(Rv 4:11)

In the hierarchy of being we perceive creation in motion from lower to higher life. We see plant life energized by the sun taking minerals from the ground and carbon dioxide from the air and transforming them into plant life, animals eat plants thus taking them into their sentient life, plants and animals become man's food and part of his being able to glorify God. And so, now the whole of creation in man and through man as feelings, images, sounds, smells, thoughts and voice can glorify God.

Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord. ...
All you birds of the air, bless the Lord.
All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lo
rd;
Praise and exalt him above all forever.

(Dn 3:76, 80-81)

               Praise the Lord ye heavens adore him; Praise him angels in the height;
Sun and moon rejoice before him; Praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise the Lord! for he has spoken; Worlds his mighty voice obeyed;
Laws which never shall be broken For their guidance he has made.

There is in human nature a desire for everlasting happiness. Man seeks this happiness here and there among God's creatures but none fully satisfies his thirst for infinite happiness. This led St. Augustine to exclaim:

"Inquietum est cor nostrum donec requiescat in te."
(Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee)

So, why did God make you and me?
