in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, .... (Gn 1:1)

God created the Universe out of nothing - not even out of darkness because darkness and the vacuum of space at absolute zero temperature is full of electromagnetic energy; it's already creation. I am often startled by this idea; how can that be? This nothingness, Jurgen Moltmann says, is first of all God humbling himself, he restricts his omnipotent power thus creating an outward space - a nothingness - into which he pours his creative love.

The myriads of creatures that God is constantly creating and evolving are radically dependent of this primordial and continuing act of creation. There is a hierarchy of creatures in the universe /Energy/matter, Plants, Animals, Men and Angels.

With the creation of Man, God recapitulates (sums up) the whole universe. Man's body is the product of cosmic evolution and the countless changes of the planetary stages of life. Man is also endowed with intelligence and free will which makes him like the angels. Since man is related to all creatures, he can call upon them to praise the creator as in the Canticle of Daniel:

"Angels of the Lord, bless the Lord....
Sun and moon, bless the Lord....
Seas and rivers, bless the Lord....
Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord....
All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lord,
praise and exalt him above all forever." (Dan 3)
